Semiconductor Analyzers

Semiconductor analyzers — also called semiconductor parameter analyzers or device analyzers — are specialized instruments for characterizing the electrical behavior of semiconductor devices including transistors, diodes, MOSFETs, BJTs, thyristors, and integrated circuits. They force precise voltage or current stimuli and measure the resulting response to generate characteristic curves such as I-V (current-voltage) and C-V (capacitance-voltage) plots. This enables engineers to extract device parameters including threshold voltage, transconductance, breakdown voltage, leakage current, and on-resistance.

These systems combine source-measure units (SMUs), pulse generators, and high-resolution measurement hardware into a coordinated platform capable of both DC and pulsed measurements. Pulsed testing is critical for power devices and laser diodes where thermal effects must be minimized during characterization. Semiconductor analyzers are widely used in device physics research, process development, and production quality assurance in semiconductor fabrication.

Typical Applications

  • I-V and C-V characterization of transistors, MOSFETs, and diodes in device R&D
  • Threshold voltage, leakage current, and breakdown characterization for process development
  • Pulsed I-V measurement of power semiconductors and GaN/SiC devices
  • Laser diode and LED characterization with pulsed current sourcing
  • Wafer-level parametric testing in semiconductor manufacturing
  • Reliability and failure analysis in aerospace & defense and automotive electronics
