Data Acquisition
Data Acquisition
Data acquisition (DAQ) encompasses the process of measuring electrical or physical phenomena — voltage, current, temperature, pressure, strain, frequency, and more — and converting those signals into digital data for analysis, storage, and control. DAQ systems combine hardware such as sensors, signal conditioning circuitry, and measurement modules with software to capture real-world physical parameters and transform them into actionable digital information. These systems are indispensable in research laboratories, production testing, structural monitoring, and industrial process automation across a wide range of industries.
Modern DAQ instruments from Keysight, Keithley, Yokogawa, and VTI Instruments support a wide range of input types, sampling rates, and channel counts, enabling engineers to build scalable measurement solutions from simple benchtop units to complex multi-rack systems. Interfaces including USB, LXI, GPIB, and PXI allow seamless integration with test software environments such as NI LabVIEW and MATLAB, enabling fully automated data collection and analysis workflows.
Typical Applications
- Environmental and structural monitoring in civil engineering and aerospace testing
- Thermal profiling and thermocouple scanning in electronics manufacturing and reliability testing
- Automated test equipment (ATE) for production line quality control and functional verification
- Strain and bridge measurements in mechanical testing and materials characterization
- Multi-channel voltage and current logging in power and energy research
- Process monitoring and control in pharmaceutical, chemical, and semiconductor industries
