General Radio Company (GR) is one of the oldest American test and measurement instrument manufacturers, founded in 1915 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company pioneered the development of precision electrical standards, impedance measurement bridges, and audio and RF test equipment. General Radio instruments became accepted laboratory standards for impedance, capacitance, and acoustic measurement throughout the 20th century, and GR-designed components such as the GR874 coaxial connector became industry standards in RF engineering.
The company later evolved into GenRad, focusing on electronic test systems and circuit board testing. Vintage General Radio instruments remain in use in metrology laboratories and university physics departments due to their exceptional accuracy and build quality.
