Thickness Gauges

Thickness gauges are instruments used to measure the thickness of materials, coatings, films, and substrates with high precision. Depending on the application, they operate on contact, ultrasonic, magnetic, or optical principles. Contact-type thickness gauges use precision anvils to measure sheet metal, gaskets, films, and flexible materials. Ultrasonic thickness gauges can measure wall thickness from a single side, making them ideal for pipe inspection, pressure vessel monitoring, and corrosion assessment where access to both surfaces is impossible.

In industrial quality control, thickness gauges ensure consistent material specification across production batches. For coating applications, dedicated magnetic or eddy-current gauges measure coating and plating thickness over metal substrates without damaging the surface.

Typical Applications

  • Sheet metal and foil thickness verification in metals manufacturing and stamping
  • Ultrasonic wall thickness measurement of pipes, pressure vessels, and storage tanks
  • Coating and paint thickness measurement in automotive and aerospace finishing
  • PCB substrate and laminate thickness control in electronics manufacturing
  • Film and paper thickness measurement in packaging and printing industries
  • Corrosion monitoring and material integrity assessment in petrochemical plants
