Safety Test Fixtures
Safety Test Fixtures
Safety test fixtures are purpose-built mechanical and electrical enclosures designed to hold electronic assemblies, printed circuit boards, and components securely during electrical safety testing. They provide a controlled, repeatable interface between the test instrument — typically a hipot tester, insulation resistance meter, or ground bond tester — and the device under test (DUT). By standardizing contact points and isolating operators from high voltages, test fixtures ensure both measurement repeatability and personnel safety during production-line and incoming inspection testing.
Fixtures range from simple clamshell designs for flat assemblies to complex mechanical press fixtures for through-hole and surface-mount PCBs. HiPot safety enclosures are used in high-voltage dielectric withstand testing to prevent accidental contact with test voltages that can reach several kilovolts. These fixtures are commonly integrated into automated test equipment (ATE) lines in electronics manufacturing.
Typical Applications
- Hipot (dielectric withstand) testing of PCBs and electronic assemblies in production
- Insulation resistance and ground bond testing on finished products
- Automated safety testing integration in electronics manufacturing lines
- Incoming inspection of components and subassemblies
- Compliance testing to IEC 60950, IEC 62368, and UL safety standards
