Hardness & Surface Testers

Hardness and surface testers are instruments used to characterize the mechanical properties and surface quality of materials and manufactured parts. Hardness testers measure the resistance of a material to permanent deformation using standardized methods such as Rockwell, Vickers, Brinell, Knoop, and Shore scales. Surface roughness testers (profilometers) quantify the micro-geometric texture of machined or ground surfaces, providing parameters such as Ra, Rz, and Rq that correlate with functional performance, seal integrity, and tribological behavior.

These instruments are used across the full manufacturing cycle — from incoming material inspection to final part acceptance — and in research laboratories studying material behavior under process variations. Portable hardness testers enable in-field testing of large structures, welds, and components that cannot be brought to a bench instrument.

Typical Applications

  • Heat treatment verification of steel and aluminum alloys in metals processing
  • Surface roughness measurement of ground, honed, and turned components for functional validation
  • Incoming inspection of raw materials and bar stock in precision machining shops
  • Weld quality verification and post-weld heat treatment assessment in structural fabrication
  • Rubber and plastic hardness testing (Shore A/D) in polymer and sealing component production
  • Bearing and gear surface finish characterization to ensure correct tribological performance

Popular Brands
