IFR (Instruments for Research) was a British manufacturer of RF and microwave test equipment with roots dating to the mid-20th century. The company became well known for its synthesized signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and communication service monitors used in aerospace, defense, and wireless communications testing. IFR was later acquired by Aeroflex, and the product lines were subsequently integrated into Viavi Solutions. Despite the brand's discontinuation, IFR instruments — including the 2023B signal generator and 2399B spectrum analyzer — remain widely deployed in maintenance and testing operations.
