Manometers

Manometers are pressure measurement instruments that use the height of a liquid column — typically water, oil, or mercury — to indicate pressure or differential pressure directly from first principles. Classic designs include U-tube, well-type, and inclined tube manometers, each suited to different pressure ranges and readability requirements. U-tube manometers are among the most fundamental pressure measurement tools in engineering, widely used in laboratories and field settings where direct, power-independent measurement is preferred.

Inclined tube manometers enhance readability for very low differential pressures by stretching the liquid column along an angled tube, effectively amplifying the scale. Well-type manometers incorporate a fixed large-bore reference chamber that allows single-leg readings without the need to observe both sides of the instrument. All liquid column manometers operate without electricity, making them inherently reliable reference instruments.

Typical Applications

  • HVAC duct static pressure and airflow measurement in commercial building systems
  • Laboratory reference measurements and calibration of low-range pressure instruments
  • Filter differential pressure monitoring in ventilation and cleanroom systems
  • Combustion appliance gas pressure testing and burner adjustment
  • Backflow prevention device testing in potable water distribution systems
  • Educational and training environments demonstrating fluid pressure fundamentals
