Dial thermometers — also known as bimetallic or mechanical thermometers — provide direct-reading temperature indication through a circular analog scale with a rotating pointer needle. They operate on the principle of differential thermal expansion: a bimetallic strip or coil mechanically drives the indicator in response to temperature changes. Because dial thermometers require no batteries or external power supply, they are inherently reliable for permanent installation in pipelines, tanks, HVAC ducts, and process equipment where continuous local readout is needed without electrical infrastructure.
Available in a range of stem lengths, dial diameters, and mounting configurations — including back-mount, lower-mount, and adjustable-angle — dial thermometers are specified by temperature range, accuracy class, and process connection size. Stainless steel construction is common for food, pharmaceutical, and corrosive-environment applications. Hermetically sealed and liquid-filled versions provide enhanced vibration and shock resistance for demanding process conditions.
